Can I buy medications from you?
Prescription, pharmacist only and pharmacy medicines can only be purchased directly from a pharmacy (online or in-store). ADHD Support Pharmacist is a medication review consultation service provided by pharmacists and is not a pharmacy and therefore, unable to dispense and supply medicines. However, as we offer in-person appointments at Carmen Drive Community Pharmacy, you are able to collect your medicine there.
Is this service covered by Medicare or subsidised?
At present, ADHD Support Pharmacist consultations are privately billed and not covered by Medicare or subsidised. However, you may be eligible for a pharmacist-conducted Home Medicines Review (HMR) if referred by your GP. While this service is offered across most pharmacies or some pharmacists, please note our credentialled pharmacists have a special interest and focus on ADHD medicines.
Do I need a referral?
A referral is not required for an ADHD Medication Review consultation. Only HMR referrals are required from your doctor.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Once you make a booking, a confirmation email will be sent with a pre-questionaire form. Forms can be an extra tedious step but it is important you complete them so provide you the best support and address your key concerns. Please send this 48 hours before your appointment.
How is this different from seeing my doctor?
Doctors focus on diagnosis and prescribing. Our role as ADHD Support Pharmacists is to complement that care, we spend the time helping you understand your medication, manage side-effects and how you can best manage your medications to ensure you get the most out of them. We bridge the gap between appointments, providing ongoing support, education, and monitoring to help you feel confident and in control of your ADHD care.
Can you adjust or prescribe my medication?
No, pharmacists cannot initiate or adjust ADHD medication doses in NSW. However, we work closely with your prescribing doctor to provide evidence-based recommendations for them to consider, based on your experience, progress and any issues you’ve raised.
Is this an in-person appointment or online?
We offer both in-person appointments at the pharmacy and online (which requires you to have a camera, microphone and internet access). We understand every person has a preference and also travel can be a barrier if you are unable to have a pharmacy appointment.
For Home Medicines Reviews, in-person visits are only available within the Sydney Metro area due to regulatory requirements. We can visit areas within Sydney metro, north west sydney, inner west sydney, south west sydney, limited and limited south and western sydney areas
What do I bring to my appointment?
You can bring along a support person, the medicines you are taking including vitamins and questions you have about medicines.
How long is the appointment?
- ADHD Medication Review is for 45 minutes
- Medication Initiation Consultation is 30 minutes
- Medication Follow Consultation is 20 minutes.
See Services for more information
What happens after the appointment?
After the consultation, our pharmacist will receive a patient ADHD review report emailed to you which includes a summary of the consultation and any tips and advice form the consultation within our scope of practice. We’ll prepare a professional report summarising our findings and recommendations. They will receive this within 7 business days. This report is sent directly to your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician. This helps ensure collaborative, consistent care across your health team.
What if I need to change or cancel my appointment?
You are able to change or cancel your appointment anytime up until 48 hours before your appointment at no cost by completing emailing info@adhdpharmacist.com. These appointments are difficult to fill and you may be charged a cancellation fee of $50 if you do not give at least 48 hours’ notice of a change/cancellation or you fail to show up for your appointment.
